When employees are not able to work to the best of their ability, stress becomes a negative factor, which can disengage workers and lead to further lulls in productivity, according to Tower Watson research.

The Tower Watson study found that 57 per cent of workers with high stress levels considered themselves disengaged, compared with only 10 per cent of employees with low stress levels.

Overall, EY estimated that the annual wage wastage from poor productivity was worth a massive $109 billion across Australia.
